Great way to get more protein August 24, 2010 armybrat0205 I absolutely love this protein shake. i have only tried the vanilla and i use it in fruit smoothies that i make it smells great and taste great. I like that it comes from pea, soy, and rice protein. It has been my favorite protein shake and i like that it does not use splenda or any fake sugars that i dont want. I love it and have used it for years!!
A Convert August 12, 2010 Anastasia While trying to find a plant protein-based smoothie/shake powder for the Fat Flush Detox Plan, I was also looking for a cheaper alternative than the ones provided in the book, as well as First Magazine, where I first read about this plan. I purchased a single-serve packet at a health food store, and this flavor was the one I chose. In all, this is a really good meal replacement!
Pros: 1.) Nutritionally sound. If taking vitamins in pill form isn't for you, you can drink 1 shake/smoothie a day and be fine (I will be drinking 2 a day). 2.) It is satisfying, and kept my hunger away for almost three hours. Used to consume and "stan" for the Right Size Smoothies, but this tastes better to me, not to mention cheaper...and I didn't have to drink water afterwards! 3.) This induces energy. After I got through drinking this, I had to go to an exercise boot camp class. I managed to keep focused on the workout enough to actually finish without feeling too dizzy, and feel great afterwards. Must be the protein! 4.) Being a diabetic, this kept my blood sugar on an even keel. I didn't have to take my usual dose of insulin when I consumed this.
Cons: 1.) From what I've read from other reviewers, you'd rather use a blender than to manually mix this with whatever you use. The directions say that it's easy to mix manually. Since I've done powders before, I knew to put this in a blender with six ice cubes and 8 oz. of almond milk, and I didn't have a problem with it, but I put the powder in after the milk and ice were blended together. 2.) The weird "greenish" color almost turned me off. Do all the Spiru-tein shakes have that in common? 3.) At first, it had a chalky aftertaste. But as I kept drinking it, it got better, and I really started to taste the chai latte flavor that I love so much. Have to acquire a taste for this if you are new to plant-based shakes in general. This was my first one.
These products also have their own website if you want to do further research, to check out the ingredients as well as the benefits of consuming plant proteins. And as an aspiring ovo-vegetarian, this keeps me committed to the lifestyle!
Aspartame August 5, 2010 ShesJo (Atlanta, Georgia USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
These products contain Aspartame.
Aspartame is made up of three chemicals: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol.
Eh, they all taste the same June 24, 2010 M. L. Davis (SC, USA) It seems to me that most of the Spirutein shakes taste the same, no matter what flavor you put on the outside. I was hoping cookies and cream would be different, but it wasn't. Very disappointing.
Would Recommend to Anyone. June 15, 2010 Online Shopper Extraordinaire :) (Chicago, IL) I have been using Spiru-tein- Chocolate flavored for the past two months to help in my reduced calorie diet. I had used a doctor prescribed product similar to this a few years ago and I remember it being a pain to mix and very chalky tasting. However, I had great success with it and I wanted to get the rest of the weight off without the expense of going back to the doctor.
I read other reviews and decided to give it a try and I have been pleased. Not only does it have a pretty good chocolate taste (not too chalky at all) but it has also really helped me cut down on my calories and lose weight. It usually keeps me full for about two and a half to three hours. While I had read other reviews that felt it was a difficult product to mix without a blender, I disagree. It is definitely not a powder that you can stir like Nestle Chocolate Milk Powder but having a shaker works wonders. I have even mixed mine by shaking it in a insulated mug with the lid tight. On occasion, I have thrown some ice into the blender with the powder mix and milk and had a milk shake.
I would definitely recommend this product to everyone. It tastes good, it is easy to mix, and it helps cut down on calories to aid in weight loss.
